The eagles of Château-Thierry

A fascinating spectacle of nature!

"Un grand spectacle familial"

Discover a fascinating world in the southern Aisne, just 45 minutes from Paris and 30 minutes from Reims.

The ‘Aigles de Château-Thierry’ are run by Monsieur and Madame Carrère, reputed professionals with a passion for falconry and birds of prey. They helped set up the falconry display at Le Puy-du-Fou before creating ‘Les Aigles de Beaucaire’ in 1991 and ‘Les Aigles de Provins’ in 1993.

After almost twenty years of successful shows, the town of Beaucaire decided to recover its castle in order to restore it and develop other tourist attractions. Monsieur and Madame Carrère began to look for another site and launched a national appeal in 2009. They received a number of offers and opted for the one put forward by the Aisne Tourist Board and the town of Château-Thierry.

The company of falconers left the Languedoc and headed for Picardy. “The warm welcome and the beauty of the setting were what convinced us”, say the Carrère couple. The “old castle” is indeed a superb setting for birds of prey to wheel above. Built in stages from the 9th to the 18th centuries, the fortress towers majestically above the town and the banks of the Marne, planted with Champagne vineyards. What’s more, Château-Thierry is the birthplace of Jean de la Fontaine who wrote four fables featuring eagles (*) – the perfect place to set up both the show and the aviary.

The surrounding area has other attractions for visitors, from Champagne wine cellars to the princely château of Condé.
